Hayfever appears to be affecting an increasing number of people in Britain, according to experts.
The condition is caused by an adverse reaction to pollen, resulting in sneezing, a blocked nose, itching in the nose and throat, and watery, itchy eyes.
Not being confined to country dwellers, hayfever is also increasingly affecting people in urban areas as a result of environmental pollution causing trees to produce excess pollen.
Angela Chalmers, a pharmacist at Boots, commented: "I've seen a large number of people asking about hayfever recently.
"It seems to be a bigger problem every year and it seems to be affecting more people in their 30s and 40s who have never had it before."
Ms Chalmers advised sufferers to seek help from a professional who can advise on the best treatments for hayfever.
Consumers are also advised to keep windows closed in the early morning and late afternoon, wear large sunglasses to prevent pollen from entering the eyes, and wash their hair before going to bed so that contact with pollen overnight is minimised.
