Vitamin E beneficial for elderly people's physical health
Elderly people are less likely to experience physical decline if they have sufficient vitamin E in their bloodstream, new research suggests.
Researchers at Yale University School of Medicine analysed the blood of 698 Italians over the age of 65 and tested their balance, walking ability and ease of standing up over a three-year period.
Their analysis revealed that people with low levels of vitamin E were more likely to experience physical decline.
Lead researcher Benedetta Bartali told Natural News: "The odds of declining in physical function were 1.62 times greater in persons with low levels of vitamin E compared with persons with higher levels.
"Our results suggest that an appropriate dietary intake of vitamin E may help to reduce the decline in physical function among older persons."
The findings, which are published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, suggest that vitamin E supplements may help to prolong physical ability in elderly people.
