Healthy lifestyle 'important for arthritis'

People with arthritis should follow a healthy lifestyle to help them manage their condition, an expert has claimed.

Around one fifth of the UK's adult population have arthritis, which affects people of all ages.

A spokeswoman for the charity Arthritis Care, which provides support for people with the disease, commented: "It's important for people with arthritis to manage their weight, to eat a balanced diet, and to exercise appropriately for their condition.

"A fresh, healthy diet generally contains all the nutrients, vitamins and minerals needed by the body."

Oily fish is thought to help ease the pain associated with arthritis as it provides the body with essential fatty acids.

The spokeswoman also revealed that the results of research into the benefits of omega-3 fish oil supplements look "promising".

However, she stressed the importance of letting your doctor know if you plan on taking any form of dietary supplement as some may interact with prescription drugs.ADNFCR-1167-ID-18605585-ADNFCR
