Simple steps to prevent seasonal spots

Many people experience problematic skin during the winter months, but experts suggest that a few easy steps can help to increase the chances of maintaining a clear complexion.

One of the most important things to remember is to always cleanse, tone and moisturise, particularly after a heavy night out.

White varieties of breads, pasta, rice and flour should be avoided as they encourage the skin to excrete large amounts of the grease-like substance sebum, which promotes the growth of spot-causing blemishes.

Experts also recommend practicing relaxation methods to avoid stress, avoiding caffeine and cigarettes, and consuming plenty of fruit, vegetables and water throughout the day.

Skin specialist Karen Jessett commented: "Analysing your daily routine - such as the levels of stress you experience, your diet, whether you smoke and the environmental conditions you live and work in - will establish trends that cause spots and problem skin."

The expert, who is the founder of website acne-advice.com and authored the book 'Clear Skin', added: "The key to preventing blemishes is understanding what can trigger your outbreaks and adopting a suitable skin care regime to maintain a healthy complexion."

Ms Jessett also recommends only using natural skincare products such as tea tree oil, lemongrass, eucalyptus and aloe vera, as harsh chemicals can strip the skin of its natural oils, causing it to produce more pore-blocking oil to compensate.ADNFCR-1167-ID-18404904-ADNFCR
